Because you are not the only one he’s talking to. With chatting and phone calls, he can be talking to 5 girls within the week and doing the same scam and give it a month he will get 2 girls giving him money. It’s a numbers game.

So as long as their history is not known, they can keep wasting your time because they get the benefit of the doubt. The only way around this is to get to know people overtime before dating them. The issue is there isn’t that many places left to meet people in real life to see them enough. Hobbies, churches, events like dances are places to get to know people in real life and have consistency.
