Its not as funny as you think it is unless the context of the conversation with a person who has periods is like joking about periods overall. Generally you can just read the room, but if a friend of yours is talking about pain or discomfort from having a period then that is definitely not the time. As long as you have compassion and understanding you should be okay

I totally get that. I wasnt trying to be rude or anything, i tend to be a very literal person who gives very literal answers and you never know with people what their intentions are when someone says a comment along the lines of "ok but what if im joking/kidding" unlike you there are people with very little compassion for others. I don’t think this is about engaging in period sex. It’s simply just mentioning that someone has a period can make someone say ew. For example I think seeing puke is normal but having to clean up someone’s puke I think it’s gross. Also when someone mentions that they threw up I’m not thinking ew, I’m thinking “oh that’s unfortunate.” I think you’re interpreting it differently.
