you don’t even have to do all your cleaning in one go. you can just clean one part of your room and then be done for the night if you want

Pick your favorite thing to clean, then your second favorite. Keep a mental list what you like doing most next

thank you guys! i ended up going with a 5 item to-do list and i got it done! small tasks are still complete tasks 😊 and it’s starting to get the ball rolling so that makes me happy ☺️

I was an expert at getting cleaning paralysis- I still don’t entirely avoid it but what would happen is my projects would get so big that they’d require a lot of time and energy- most times I didn’t have time or energy to do the whole thing at once so I would never start! So then my mom suggested at least doing it little by little and that really helped because eventually it got done!! And then something that had taken me forever to start got done much quicker than I thought it would be. So my

I get in a routine, like, there is a strict order of efficiency. Laundry first, then in the time it’s washing I can wipe kitchen, vacuum, mop, clean the bathroom then scrub the shower while I also take a shower. Clothes in the dryer after the shower then while I get dressed it’s onto bedrooms, wipe windows and sweep outside, anything else and then relax. Fold laundry at the end. I cannot change that order

i tried doing a 5 task daily to-do list to make it not as daunting and it really worked until i stopped doing it. maybe i should attempt it again. cause in my head it seems like i have a never ending to-do list, so that’s why it feels so overwhelming

yeah that’s great. my clothes take about 40 minutes then i hang them to dry over night cause i have to pay for mine in my complex, but i’ve definitely tried to figure out what i can do while it’s washing at least

i know that’s what’s so hard for me. it’s knowing i have a bajillion things to clean but burning out fast and feeling guilty of not doing it all at once

Suggestion- well suggestions because I just remembered something else that has helped me- would be to for large tasks, to break them down into smaller tasks so that this gives you a kind of path to getting the large task done and organizes the task in your head so it’s easier to take on. For when you have a lot of tasks to complete, making a list really helps! It again helps you get organized, and you can list the tasks in different ways depending on what’s more important to you- for example

You can either list them based on how long you expect the tasks to take (some people prefer getting the quickly done tasks out of the way while others prefer doing the longest tasks first to get it out of the way and get rid of the most stressful one), how tedious or daunting the task is, or by order of priority aka what needs to get done asap vs what can wait a bit longer. Both of these things really helped me because I was having a big problem with not being able to just start because the

Stress of either one big task or multiple tasks mixed between large and small ones would really make me freeze and not let me do ANYTHINGGGG. But now organizing things in my head or literally on paper or my phone has really helped me break things down into tasks that are much more manageable even if some of the broken down parts are still time or energy consuming but it’s now less, or organize tasks in a way that helps reduce the stress. And then I get clarity to be able to start!!

Oh & another thing that helps reduce the stress of these tasks to reduce the cleaning paralysis: give yourself a schedule or a time limit of something that’s stressing you out a lot. For example, say you have a lot to clean. Tell yourself ok I’m going to clean for one good hour today and even set a timer and dedicate one whole hour to truly cleaning, and see how much you get done without having to clean absolutely everything. You’ll both tackle some of the cleaning, but not drive yourself crazy!

Or you can do the break down by sections instead of time say you can organize/clean/declutter (whatever the task is) one closet a day, one room, or even one section of a room and this also stops you from going on endlessly but still advancing in getting the tasks done! Sorry for writing so much I just got very passionate and excited about expressing all I’ve learned through my own experience of cleaning paralysis😂😂 (which I didn’t even know was a term btw so thanks for teaching me that😅)

no i appreciate it so much! it’s really reassuring. i have done a lot of what you mentioned in the past, and a lot of it did help, so i def just got to keep reminding myself what works for me whenever i feel like this.
