Racism unfortunately is taught at systemic levels, old white bigots are flooded with brainwashed teachings disguised as motivational speaking. You think anyone’s ever actually said their names with their whole heart before? Probably not - but their pastor degrades POC with captivating emotion every Sunday…

My mom had a patient that couldn't even remember their own daughter's name but damn sure remembered to be racist

When people get dementia they remember the things that happen in their youth, so for them it’s back in the 1900s not 2025. They forget that everyone is “equal” now, and that there isn’t segregation or slaves.

I have an actual answer. One of the unfortunate effects of Alzheimer's/dementia is aggression and a lack of self-control. The parts of the brain that regulate behavior straight up deteriorate, they aren't there anymore. The result a lot of the time is people just saying the absolute most hurtful things they can in response to even slight discomfort or confusion. That's not to excuse the behavior, it's obviously still hurtful to those on the receiving end, but someone genuinely losing...

Accurate. My friend worked at a dementia ward and her mixed bf would bring her lunch sometimes and they’d always call him racial slurs but couldn’t remember their family members names, or how to use a fork.

It’s in an old persons blood. My grandpa has dementia but doesn’t forget to call a black person the n word right to them

One of the most insidious parts of dementia is that it eats away at the most actively used parts of the brain, so things like loved ones, recent memories, manners and social changes get taken away first, and then all that’s left is habits from youth and more subliminal shit. Doesn’t make it ok but there is some actual logic there to why it happens. Hopefully one day (very soon) all racists die 🙏🙏🙏

You tend to hold on to core beliefs and reactions as you age because they are a crystallized thought. Pretty interesting psychology to it

As someone with a family member who owns two nursing homes…this goes both ways. You know that right? It’s neither here nor there because it doesn’t solve the root of the problem, but the population with the highest percentage of these racist behaviors and verbal abuse is actually NOT white people.

Racism is a concept rather than a specific fact like a name so inherently it’s much easier to remember and you’d be surprised how many blacks are racist where I live

Racism is a natural thing humans have. For example, you don’t see Huskys hanging out with Shih Tzu’s.

The nurses aides split up amongst themselves who they’d take care of in the Alzheimer’s wing on any given shift. The staff is of mixed race. A lot of these patients also get a little aggressive. At any given time, there was only 1 or 2 of a certain race that would NOT be as racial or aggressive to staff that at least looked a little like them. Whereas there would only be 2-3 whites that WOULD be like that. Almost all whites were considered non specific in care giver.

Hey bud, I think you missed the part where I implied that my statement should not be taken seriously. I believe that it does not take much intelligence to figure out when someone is joking or not. First of all. 2 words “human nature” is a very dry unserious response l, but under the circumstance that it is just words on a screen, I understand why it may be misinterpreted. ‼️BUT‼️ the point where obvious sarcasm should have been picked up was when I says AI Overview.

Part 2. As a student at one of the top universities you should know that AI overview is probably one of the least credible sources that should never be used as evidence. This is why my second dry and OBVIOUS sarcastic response was “AI overview”. Lighten up and enjoy life more. Yours truly, D1 rage baiter

...their brain functions who says racial slurs because some flickering meanness in their mind can remember that they're horrible things to say is not intentionally choosing to be racist, they're just perpetuating racism by existing in a society where slurs and racist attitudes are readily accessible ways to be extremely hurtful. Now having said that, there are 100% old people who are just being racist because they don't give a shit anymore. That's different and inexcusable.
