if the reason minors cant consent to sex is because of coercive power dynamics, how come the law isn’t as strict for other kinds of potentially coercive power dynamics? (abusive marriage, employee and boss, rich and poor, strength difference, etc)

there is for clear power dynamics actually, boss and employee, teacher student. there are laws in place in these cases. when you get into male and female power dynamics it’s different obv, but there’s always some kind of dynamic like that in any relationship.

Because the rest are adults and are expected to be able to make at least a few decisions for themselves. Obvs power dynamics are at play but adults have more power to possibly remove themselves from certain situations. I did say possibly. As adults there has to be at least some responsibility for some situations, whereas kids - not so much.

Because in those other dynamics, it is still people who can mostly consent to things because they are adults, or at least have adult brain driven decisions

consent is based on free will and as we know, that’s vague and complicated. we as human beings do things and be with people for a lot of different reasons

i think the laws are mostly in place but women and children in general are not very well protected because often men are the perpetrators and courts won’t sentence them well. i think that’s the problem
