So there’s a high chance I’ll be getting wisdom teeth out. Do I get to choose if I’m put under or left conscious? And does anyone have experience for what it’s like as a whole to have them out?

just got them out this week under anesthesia, i've had a little pain but i got them out fairly quickly after I was suggested to. The worst part is basically having to fast for like 48 hours and my meds made me a zombie for a couple of days. Almost through the worst part and it's annoying but it's really nothing compared to most surgery's

it depends on the surgeon, some will offer different levels of sedation (laughing gas, twilight, heavy sedation) but some surgeons will only do one kind. my friend had them done awake because it was cheaper and and he was fine. i had mine done under heavy sedation/asleep, i had complications but pain wise i didn't need any of the prescribed opioids, i didn't even take tylenol or ibuprofen

stop overthinking this why pay extra money to put yourself out unless you have to put yourself out

48 hours of fasting? Does that also mean 48 hours without psychiatric meds if I have to take those with food do you know? (Actually gonna ask my dentist that so if you don’t know that’s ok- still thanks for answering)

sorry what i mean is you can only eat soft foods, but i had a lot of pain and swelling opening my mouth so even swallowing was difficult, leading to basically not eating for the first few days.

Oh!! Ok ok I thought you meant I had to fast pre surgery or something (I’ve never known anyone who’s had them out I didn’t know-)

well if you do go under anesthesia you need to stop all eating and drinking 6 hours before, but if you have it in the morning it's not as big of a deal, they'd give you all those instructions on specific places beforehand
