How do people make friends so damn fast at college? I see new freshman posting their college friends already meanwhile here I am as an incoming junior with no real friends in college

If all my friends add up to a dollar, I’d rather have four quarters than a hundred pennies

honestly because they are fake, you just have integrity with your friendships

literally play social butterfly, smile, compliment, yap, find some sort of common ground. the deeper friendships will stick and the more shallow ones will either fade or be good enough as class/dorm friends. this is coming from an introvert with horrible social and normal anxiety btw

school events can be helpful, just look for the person who looks as lost as you are and it’s likely they will want to talk! i’ve met friends this way instead of approaching established groups

a good idea maybe is to go through rush boy or girl, i met a lot of ppl in the same boat as me during that, even if you dont want to join one just do rush for like first few days

A lot of people that go to college are local people around that area. They see familiar faces and are much more comfortable to interact with each other.

It’s gonna take a few awkward interactions/hangouts before you find a group that you like

i didn’t have real friends until my junior year :( say yes to events you don’t feel like going to, and step out of your comfort zone with small talk in places around campus. you never know who you will end up connecting with

In my first month of college I had tons of friends, and then I stopped being friends with most of them as soon as I realized that we didn’t actually like each other, we were just afraid of being alone.

I talked to people on busses a lot, in particular, during the first few weeks of school

Honestly, I made most of my friends from jobs I worked. No one talked in my classes and it felt awkward to bridge that gap. Activities and clubs are always a good shout too

From what I’ve seen, those tend to be the people involved in Greek life, athletics, etc, who are already meeting people and developing friendships before the school year actually starts, or they’re the ones that came from the same hs and were already friends before coming to college.

i hate to say it but in my experience the people with the easiest time making friends are basic af people gravitate towards others who (at least outwardly) are similar to them- same age, culture, gender, sexuality, class/social status, etc. its only on a base level tho, ive known tons of people that everyone liked- but they had no real connections. if you visibly stand out, the majority of people give you fewer chances. wrong location/too small of a school can be harder for socializing

I know it’s my fault I don’t have friends but my question is how do they do it?

you just go up to people. Literally something in common you have with them and strike up a convo

Roommates are a good place to start. Niche clubs with very few people are another good way to make break tight knit friends

then you can stay friendless. You can’t judge everyone based off of your old friends, then you won’t make any! :D

realest shit i ever did hear. 1 real friend is worth a million fakes. i’ve had the same friend group for the last 20 years, and i feel so incredibly lucky. even after moving across the country, we talk nearly every single day, without fail. we even manage to meet up at least 2-3 times a year. mind you, i’m 24. i’ve spent more of my life with them than without, and they truly mean everything to me.
