You could tell him you’re sure he’ll find somebody else, but thats not mandatory. Also if he says “can we still be friends” you say “i dont think so. I think we should just not see each other for a while.” And if he goes “for how long??” You go “oh, why are you being so difficult?! Cant you understand that i dont love you!? Get out of here, you big stupid animal!”

Don’t do it at dinner. Meet up at a park or something where it’s public but there aren’t people sitting two feet away from you. It would be a dick move to dump him in front of a bunch of people where he might have to hold in tears and/or be embarrassed. Treat others how you want to be treated ts.

Yes. It’ll suck but at least he can leave right away or if he’s with family/friends he’ll have emotional support if he needs it.
