Why is love so transactional nowadays? You can’t just give me flowers just cuz or must I do something in order for you to do so? It doesn’t even need to be flowers, you can’t just write me a love letter on a piece of paper?

Feminism taught men that women are equal and shouldn’t be treated differently than men. This has caused mild social friction. Probably for the better, nobody serious thinks that forcing women into the home sphere and men into the work sphere is a good idea. Consequently though, Men are a lot less willing to do grand one-sided romantic gestures.

Thank you. I’ve never dated it’s just things I’ve seen happen to people over the years. How love became more transactional and how people treat others like apps.

Under the old paradigm of Male led households, it made plenty of sense for Men to do those large romantic gestures in order to convince Women to take that role. Now that both genders are supposed to be equal partners, many Men have come to expect equal effort. Men and Women alike haven’t fully adjusted to the new paradigm, and it causes problems like yours and so many other Women’s (“Why won’t men get me flowers/approach me first/pay”)

Sure, it’s definitely upped the vitriol and outright hatred everyone encounters on the day to day, but it’s not like gender relations were perfect before that either. There have always been standards and expectations that are constantly being pushed and pulled for one reason or another, the internet has just made it a lot more toxic and a lot harder to ignore.
