When yall close your eyes, do you see random flashes of color or patterns or sometimes even vivid mandala images (especially when spaced out and focused)? Does anyone know what this is and what causes it?

Only when I'm falling asleep, which is called a hypnagogic hallucination

Its your brain interpreting the function of the retina and optic nerve as light, which is why you see it with your eyes closed. It’s called phosphenes!

All the time. Sometimes when my eyes are closed feels like someone is flashing a light into my eyes . Top of being diagnosed with schizophrenia

Oh gotcha, yea this just happens to me at random sometimes, not necessarily when I’m ab to fall asleep tho. The colors and random shapes flashing usually happen every time I close my eyes or even when it’s dark, the mandala and geometric patterns usually only start when I’m dissociating a bit or spiraling about smth in panicking about. Tryna figure out how likely it is a hallucination rather than an odd visual phenomenon bc apparently I’ve been hallucinating more and more over the years

Okay cool. Kinda figured the difference is how often it happens as it happens most of the time I close my eyes, but good to know it can also not be hallucinatory

It happens to me more often than not, you said you’re diagnosed with schizophrenia? I’m mostly asking bc I don’t suspect I have schizophrenia, but I’m capable of hallucinating and currently trying to figure out what is causing it. Do you experience random lines of light in your vision sometimes too, especially in the dark? That one is smth I’ve been trying to figure out but chalked it up to possible brain damage

That last one looks like just splotches or lines of colorful light, like maybe a green horizontal line in the middle of my vision that moves with my perception rather than the surroundings and changes color sometimes. It’s a nuisance while driving

Well I never done drugs. For me if I’m thinking of a bright light when my eyes are shut. Tend to see a bright light shining in my face . Try to ignore thinking about it and it goes away. Longest time I thought it was normal. Over active imagination. If it’s just splotches of colors etc it’s just the eye trying to capture something. Same with hearing. If you’re in a room in complete silence. Your ear drums try to pick up some kind of sound.
