as a 30 year-old woman who was in a relationship with someone in their late 20s when i was 19, 👏 there 👏 is 👏 a 👏 reason 👏 women 👏 these 👏 men’s 👏 own 👏 age 👏 don’t 👏 want 👏 them 👏. you are better than being a charity case for someone who is immature for their age. please be less stubborn than i was.
You'll see how weird it is when you're older/their age and realize 1. how immature you were, 2. How they were losers that couldn't date women their own age so they manipulated younger girls, and 3. Teenage boys won't be attractive to you at all, and you won't see anything in young people because you'll be mature and well adjusted and realize it's disgusting and wrong :)
if you’re in college or an entry-level job, and he’s established in a career, you may want to consider the imbalance of power. if he’s not established in a career, you may want to consider what he’s been doing for the past 5 years to not be progressing with his peers and why people his own age don’t want to date him.
18-25 year-olds do not have the same capacity to consent as people over 25, because the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for making decisions like consent, finishes developing at 25-30. that’s like saying “there are toddlers who truly ~want~ cookies for every meal.” you are the adult, and it’s up to you to tell them that is not healthy.
that person has had almost your entire lifetime beyond when their brain was done developing (which yours is not yet) to emotionally mature and accomplish their life goals. short of being in a coma for 20 years, pretty much every reason you WOULD be on equal ground is also a huge red flag.
And it’s not like it’s just the Deep South; from Indiana to Maine west to east every state except NY (where it’s 17) and Delaware (18) is also 16- that’s all of the Rust Belt and New England. Conversely, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida are three of the 13 states where the age is 18
Per the Wikipedia page I searched on private mode so it wouldn’t go into my search history: “The age of consent in Maine is 16. Teenagers aged 14 and 15 may engage in sexual intercourse with partners who are less than 5 years older. § 254. Sexual abuse of minors 1. A person is guilty of sexual abuse of a minor if: A. The person engages in a sexual act with another person, not the actor's spouse, who is either 14 or 15 years of age and the actor is at least 5 years older than the other person.”
It’s like that bc in normal situations most of these kids that be “dating” are in situations where they’re a year apart one of them is 16 and the other is 17. And while they’re dating in school the older one turns 18 technically an “adult” while the younger one is still 16 turning 17.
yea in NC my friend made me check when we were in high school bc she was 16 dating a 23yr old and it would only have been illegal if he worked at our school. My mom has a friend who's kid ran off with a 40yr old when she was 14 and the cops wouldn't let her press charges unless the kid agreed to it.
Not everybody here is 17-23 tho. They just never announce it bc they get poked at. A lot of people don’t start their education till they’re older. Or they could be med or post-grad students that have been stuck in school for a decade. Either way, people want a way to connect to communities anonymously & this app is good for that. In a setting exclusive to adults, it’s just agism to essentially say “You’re old and weird and you don’t belong here.”
I know it's not everyone! It's the majority of people and the app generally targets younger people because they make up most college students. There are so many online forums and communities so it's somewhat curious to me that someone who may be 50 would wanna talk with/DM someone who may be a teenager. It's not inherently bad but it should raise questions because we know the nature of the internet and the fragility of teen/young adult safety online.
