A lot of Venezuelans are happy that their dictator was captured but I’m seeing a lot of Americans criticizing and calling it terroristic. Is it the right idea but wrong execution/end goal type of thing?

it makes all the sense in the world venezuelans would be happy to see maduro captured. it also makes sense americans knowing the history of what we usually do when a nation has resources we want would be critical and suspicious of the operation

It violated the UN charter. Plain and simple. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it “terroristic”, but it was, quite plainly, VERY ILLEGAL.

I’m going to wait a few days to see what else happens to form my own opinions but I want some clarity from the public

We have done this exact thing before to other countries, most famously we did this to Cuba, which directly led to Castro taking over because of our “liberation” and adding in a “better leader”. Same with Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and MANY others. We have a history of invading other countries “liberating them” then taking shit and leaving them worse off than before. That’s the issue the left has with this. Trump acted without congressional approval and when Nixon did that people were mad

I see videos of Venezuelans talking about the truth. Imperialism. Guess it just depends on where you look

Tbh idk what they are saying my country had no right to do this nor does the pedo President have authority to do it unilaterally.

There are protests in the street to free Maduro in Venezuela, so I would maybe do a bit of research into how they actually feel rather than making general statements not based on reality

trumps order to strike and then kidnap their president was wrong even if maduro was bad, trump just wants to replace him with a pro israeli jew who will do whatever israel says

For the American people I think your last statement of right idea wrong execution is it. The Venezuelan president be yoinked WILL cause a power vacuum and the common Venezuelan will be the one who suffers. Or at least that how a majority of takeovers lead to. Shit will get a lot worse before it gets better for them. I just don’t get why the US didn’t help the Venezuelans set up another election instead of what they did

My point with Nixon is that the outrage with trump not having congress approve is so low compared to when another republican president did the same, because even then republicans disapproved. The outrage shouldn’t be on one side of the spectrum. Everyone should be outraged by this

So let’s say this goes in favor of Venezuela and they are happy ever after would liberals see this as a problem still? I think so for whatever reason…

I’m not talking about current UN politics, I’m talking about the UN CHARTER, aka the document that formed the UN, which was based on really good ideas, and is considered a treaty, making it LAW

The United States can’t go around kidnapping political leaders dude that is literally the shit that happens in dystopian novels like The Fat Years and Artificial Respiration. Stalin famously kidnapped political figures and that was a bad thing but the us can kidnap political figures and now that’s suddenly an okay thing to do? Especially without congressional approval?

Ok so I maybe was asking for some more clarity from the public while the news was still fresh which you could’ve provided without a dick response like this

Except you didn’t just ask, do you? You premised your question on the statement that “the majority of Venezuelans support this” (w/o a source I’m guessing). It’s not a dick response to tell people to research what they’re talking about

It’s just what I was seeing and hearing around tbh. There’s nothing wrong with wanting and giving context on the situation
