i fear america has gotten too woke- not in the political sense per say but the lack of chivalry way. so when did every subway/ bus have men sitting in the seats while the majority of women (some pregnant or elderly) are standing? just weird behavior imo

It’s a lack of community and awareness. It’s the focus on one’s self that causes this and it sucks. We should have a team mentality in giving up seats to people who need it. And sorry not sorry but in many cases women deserve seats over men they have periods and often bear chronic illnesses that don’t get treated well because of funding going to men’s health stuff so like the least they can do is spare a seat #hottake

Why should an able body man give up his seat for an able body woman? He got there first. I agree with elderly or pregnant. But a normal man and a woman are both entitled to the seat. That’s what equality is.

tbh as a guy, i wouldn’t expect a woman i don’t even know to offer me any kind of consideration, respect, or empathy. it’s nice when it happens, but it’s definitely not something i can imagine feeling entitled to, no matter how much i might need it.

It’s because of the huge equal gender rights push. They wanna make all this noise but then still expect to be pampered when they say that hate men.

I’ll give up my seat to the elderly but the men hating feminist? Nope

i think this discourse is so important.. first, as a woman i am glad to have my freedom but why does that equate to a total loss of chivalry? chivalry is not a religious ideology or an old fashioned concept to bring women or men down, it helps our society when men are pushed out of their comfort zones to prioritize empathy since, unlike women, it is not in the forefront of their instinctual nature. men are becoming more violent toward women, losing chivalry is a negative societal shift.

That’s the opposite. That’s just lack of empathy and community.

It’s not woke it’s “feminism” when I worked retail, several I heard some coworkers being politely asked out on dates and they would respond with “ I can take myself on dates”. Anyways, I also noticed men want to be wined and dined too and fucked in the ass.

I’ll take it tbh I’d rather have to stand on the bus than be denied access to abortion

hmmmm..... maybe feminism has ruined things.......idk which is better😣😣 being able to vote, have my own bank account, & have control over my body... or have men give me their seat & open doors for me a little more often? LMFAO ill take the feminism.

It’s not feminism it’s men not having human decency or empathy.

My bf acts chivalrous and has kindness for everyone. If he saw a pregnant woman, he would 100% give up his seat, and he believes in feminism and women’s rights. It’s not wokeness. You’re just a POS.

that’s a solid take but I’ve never really bought the idea that men or women are more inclined to specific virtues. The unique way every individual human being has been brought up really muddies any argument about instinctual nature.

Oh please, be fr. Ofc if I saw a pregnant or elderly woman, or just someone I thought needed it, I’d give up a seat no problem, but when most of what we see in the news and social media is women saying all men are awful and no one needs them and women are better, it tends to put a bad taste in my mouth about ‘being chivalrous’ toward women in general

imo if we want to improve the situation on male violence toward women, we should focus on making sure it actually gets punished, and harshly (rapists get off scot-free EXTREMELY often, and even when they are convicted sentences are often way too light) instead of upholding expectations that just reinforce a sense of otherness

i agree with that, harsher punishment is a need but as every day people, or as mentors of next generations i think we can make a start by changing our culture as well, since as you said people are also a product of their environments

to expand on the “nature vs nurture” thing I guarantee you’ve met lots of kind and thoughtful men, and lots of harsh and stubborn women. It’s all about the circumstances people have faced and the way they were raised. And men who *are* less inclined to empathy were probably impacted by the heavily-ingrained cultural norm that men are *expected* to be that way.

that’s fair but I would say men treating women as equals is a better sign of respect. Kindness doesn’t need to exist on the basis of gender

This is genuinely ominous. You sound like you shouldn’t be allowed in public spaces. Women are not to blame for your problems.

This reply doesn’t even make sense. They said that women who say they hate men (which is a lot of women on social media these days) shouldn’t expect chivalry, which is valid, and you reply with ‘women are not to blame for your problems’ like what??
