Why does hearing the word of God make people upset, why do people try to make it go away? I would love to have an actual discussion if you’d like

depends on the situation but a lot of times, people who are spreading the word of God to a specific person are doing it because they want that person to conform to whatever they're telling them about. no one likes being told to change, it's as simple as that.

In my experience people use Christianity and Catholicism to pretend like they’re good people, then they go against everything the 10 commandments says. And then they are able to just confess and be absolved of their sins??? It’s something I was forced to grow up in and never believed. The world is not ending, and real, good people do not use religion like that. I do not want someone to walk up to me and tell me “Jesus loves you” either, because you’re throwing my religious background in my face.

it really depends on context. i like having conversations about religion with my friends because i find it interesting and it’s done respectfully. but I also get harrassed sometimes in public. a couple weeks ago i was going to the store to get some eggs or something and while at a crosswalk I had a lady stare at me and say “it’s not too late, jesus loves you” apparently prompted only by my appearance, and then proceeded to follow me across the street repeating herself until i said “that’s nice”

Because it always starts as “wanting to have a discussion to understand why” but then it turns into refusing to listen to the other sides opinions while forcing your beliefs onto someone that is actively trying to tell you thats not what they believe. Because religion is above all else your personal relationship with God, and when people are constantly telling you their perception of the Bible or their religion it’s based on their understanding and relationship and it’s frustrating because your, in a way, being told how you should perceive it and how u should understand it and your not given the opportunity to build a true personal relationship with God.

If I can’t change your mind about your beliefs, why would I trust you enough to inform my own? People like religion because it makes them feel safe and hide behind ignorance, no matter how small, instead of confronting the issues that their religions cause. Religion is self-validating and to anyone who has lived outside of religion and has critical thinking skills, that should be and is a major turn off. It’s a manifestation of mankind’s obsession with ego, comfort and control at root.

The main issue I have with religion is thinking that 1. Being religious makes you a good person (not true) 2. Your religion should be anyone else’s business (we don’t care) and 3. If you’re only doing good things because a 2000 year old fiction novel told you to, then you’re not actually a good person

I live in the south and was raised Christian for 20 yrs. I started deconstructing a few years ago. It isn’t until you leave Christianity that you realize how much it’s forced down your throat every second of the day(at least in the south), so I’m already sick of Christianity as it is. Being forced to hear someone naive enough to still buy into it recite their favorite quotes is just agonizing.

Because religion is a suckers bet. You have no real idea of what happens after death but you hope and believe that your gods eternal paradise is what our souls are brought to. However there is no real guarantee that your soul goes to any place after death if souls even exist. For all we know your soul could stay in your rotting corpse full conscious as your converted to raccoon feces. Religion replaces certainty with faith. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I hear you and I’m getting lots of hate comments so my brain is wired everywhere. But even then, people should just say verses, not explain them unless your a pastor anointed by God Himself. They can spread the gospel without explanation because our duty is to plant seeds. So I understand why people will think bias on it, I’m hoping to change that

Ok. It’s not of God then. You wanna read the word of God? Read the New Testament and see what God Himself directly says. Old Testament is good to know your history, but God clarifies it all through Jesus that says what not to do and you also forget God freed Israel from the Egyptians, if you wanna say in the Bible. Proof that it’s not God saying it then

Yes, agreed if you’ve decided you want to spread the word then it should just be versus but most times, whether we are aware of it or not on some level are giving our perspective of how we understand it when speaking to others. When a pastor is speaking, even then it’s not necessarily an explanation, but that is their understanding of the word of God and I view it as them trying to open up everyone’s mind to different understandings, and allowing people to start thinking creatively themselves.

And that’s a great thing to want, but you can’t force/convince or “save” someone before they are truly ready if that’s what they want. Which all circles back to why people get frustrated “hearing” about it, because they aren’t ready and that’s not the path they are on in that moment.

Hi, people like Ruth a Moabite and Rahab a resident of Jericho were gentiles and God blessed them. God’s judgement can fall on a society and he decides. If you look at the Tower of Babel, that draws a lot of parallels when kings seek to basically to control language and culture into one culture and then at that point keep people away from God. The late dark age collapse was due to the rulers seeking to box in the faithful and hide God.
