Why does hearing the word of God make people upset, why do people try to make it go away? I would love to have an actual discussion if you’d likeIn my experience people use Christianity and Catholicism to pretend like they’re good people, then they go against everything the 10 commandments says. And then they are able to just confess and be absolved of their sins??? It’s something I was forced to grow up in and never believed. The world is not ending, and real, good people do not use religion like that. I do not want someone to walk up to me and tell me “Jesus loves you” either, because you’re throwing my religious background in my face.
it really depends on context. i like having conversations about religion with my friends because i find it interesting and it’s done respectfully. but I also get harrassed sometimes in public. a couple weeks ago i was going to the store to get some eggs or something and while at a crosswalk I had a lady stare at me and say “it’s not too late, jesus loves you” apparently prompted only by my appearance, and then proceeded to follow me across the street repeating herself until i said “that’s nice”
Because it always starts as “wanting to have a discussion to understand why” but then it turns into refusing to listen to the other sides opinions while forcing your beliefs onto someone that is actively trying to tell you thats not what they believe. You can see it from your responses alone. It’s a never ending cycle and people are sick of being bothered.
Because religion is above all else your personal relationship with God, and when people are constantly telling you their perception of the Bible or their religion it’s based on their understanding and relationship and it’s frustrating because your, in a way, being told how you should perceive it and how u should understand it and your not given the opportunity to build a true personal relationship with God.
If I can’t change your mind about your beliefs, why would I trust you enough to inform my own? People like religion because it makes them feel safe and hide behind ignorance, no matter how small, instead of confronting the issues that their religions cause. Religion is self-validating and to anyone who has lived outside of religion and has critical thinking skills, that should be and is a major turn off. It’s a manifestation of mankind’s obsession with ego, comfort and control at root.
I just think the bible has been translated too many times by evil ass people for you to sit here and tell me they didn’t twist majority of the stuff to fit an agenda; like your telling me if sb gay their going to hell but a pedophile who repents gets to go be with god ?? Also, it didn’t quite make sense to me how god didn’t forgive Adam and Eve i fear what adam and eve did was a use of free will which they seemed to be sorry for(repentance) so why weren’t they saved? it’s so many contradictions
The main issue I have with religion is thinking that 1. Being religious makes you a good person (not true) 2. Your religion should be anyone else’s business (we don’t care) and 3. If you’re only doing good things because a 2000 year old fiction novel told you to, then you’re not actually a good person
I live in the south and was raised Christian for 20 yrs. I started deconstructing a few years ago. It isn’t until you leave Christianity that you realize how much it’s forced down your throat every second of the day(at least in the south), so I’m already sick of Christianity as it is. Being forced to hear someone naive enough to still buy into it recite their favorite quotes is just agonizing.
Because for the last time karen I'm not Christian so get it tf out of my face. Be like Jesus and let your actions do the talking instead of blabbering about a God that mass murdered millions if you really want my respect. Also you could, and here is a crazy idea, practice your religion with your own community away from others who don't believe in it out of respect too bc it doesn't need to be in the public at all!!!
Because religion is a suckers bet. You have no real idea of what happens after death but you hope and believe that your gods eternal paradise is what our souls are brought to. However there is no real guarantee that your soul goes to any place after death if souls even exist. For all we know your soul could stay in your rotting corpse full conscious as your converted to raccoon feces. Religion replaces certainty with faith. And faith offers nothing but uncertainty and hope.
i don’t like it because of this comment section. it’s proving my points for me. i’m all for a respectful and educational talk about religion. i have friends who are from all types of religious backgrounds and it can be interesting to have perspectives and get educated about things, but more often than not, it turns into this comment section and that’s not what i’m here for. it shouldn’t be a debate or proving a point.
Ok so as someone who was raised religious and has tried to research other religions after I grew up I have nothing against the base of all religions be kind to others no matter what and you will be “saved” but I think people take all religions and twist them to their own bias which is why people don’t believe in them. (Mind you I’m the kinda person to pray to all gods I will say something like whoever what’s to pitch in right now because I don’t know who’s “right” in the end no one does)
I would discuss with them to find the root of the religion and have a really interesting conversation. But from my knowledge, from what I hear of everyone else, that Muhammad married kids, told everyone that an angel said it was ok. In a world where the moral compass is that is disgusting. Some people sometimes say they don’t do all of that to the point and it doesn’t make sense to me. So if I have a discussion about that then I would have an answer
and there are plenty of places in the old testament where the Christian God did horrible things or told people to do horrible things on his behalf, that's not really the point. the feeling you had just then, that you're right and they're wrong, is the same feeling most people get when they're proselytized to, and it's unpleasant.
Abraham, tested, Job, proud. Satan said Job was nothing without anything and that he would leave God if God took it away. Fair, we are all materialistic or have something as a gift from God, and God gave it back more than he had. Sodom and Gomorrah, nonstop evil, all of it, no sign of repentance, was just gonn make th world worse, the flood, again zero repentance, but He saw one man who would be a good start to a world He made perfect originally. Rebelling, you suffer the consequences of actions
Trust me I’m not better than anyone I’m probably at the very bottom. But thanks to Jesus, I am saved by grace. I am a piece of dirt from the ground that Jesus saved. If He saved and loves someone like me, He will def save everyone who comes to Him. It’s not religion, it’s a relationship. I’m sorry you got forced, they were a terrible example of what Christ represents.
It’s not religion with Jesus, it’s a relationship. He talks to you, He reveals Himself to you in many ways. He helps you in disaster if you let Him. That’s all He wants. He wants your love, that’s all. But I can understand why you would think nothing happens. I used to be like that too, so I respect your thoughts, I just hope that you will turn to the Lord one day
This is true. Jesus will reveal himself if one seeks him and he will outshine anything the world can ever offer. You cannot have a better friend than Jesus. God is there on the other side with open arms at the end because he doesn’t see us but sees Jesus when we believe him as the messiah and repent our sins.
and i managed to jay walk and speed walk away. this has happened to me a lot and is one of the more mild and less threatening situations ive been in with complete strangers insisting on preaching to me out of nowhere. i think they mean well but following me around making passive aggressive statements at strangers is harrassment and doesn’t make me want to talk to you
this is also why people don’t want to talk to some you specifically about religion because you seem incapable of listening. you’re so obsessed with making a point about god you completely have lost track of the actual point the other person is making. because you’re not listening to them and are instead preaching to them it’s impossible to have a conversation since you aren’t engaging in good faith or listening to that they have to say. it also makes you come off as rude and self righteous
I’m sorry that happened to you. It’s supposed to be a discussion, not a call out. She’s right it’s not too late to go to Jesus, but only because that’s for everyone. Me included, I have to repent daily because every day I do smth bad. But I would love a discussion if your up for it
i don’t want to have a discussion about jesus, it’s not something i feel a need for in my life which is why im not religious (same goes for other religions, i live a good, happy, moral life without religion and if god is real i hope they understand i was more focused on being a good person than a good christian or muslim or hindu or whoever ended up being right). my point is that this is why people shy away from being preached at.
because the people yall decide need it most are always people who are visibly different than you. i’m queer and visibly so and i dress alternatively and when people judge your religion, your values, and your worth as a person off that and then decide things must be so dire for you that they should follow you around in public or harass you on the street or on the train, yeah i don’t want anything to do with that.
Actually to me everyone needs Jesus whether I think you know Him or not. I ask or tell someone the gospel, they say no, they say they know it, they say thank you, it says go to into the world and preach the gospel to alllll nations. Not to specific people who might need help no. Because all have fall short to the glory of God. Allll
I think it’s because religion stopped being about religion and became a business. As a Muslim and even then I can only speak for myself, choose which ever religion you want or don’t choose any. I view religion as something to be chosen rather than be chained with. But once someone does choose, I along with everyone else has no right to try to change them. It’s surprising the amount of people who try to make you learn about their religion forcefully
Yeah I completely understand and agree, I used to be an atheist and have serious mental health and addiction problems and I was truly changed by taking in the word of Jesus, BUT for me it had to happen when I was ready and so I understand why people who aren’t ready yet will reject it & possibly be offended at it if they feel it’s being shoved down their throat.
People should spread the gospel not shove it down their throats. Here and there rarely I’ll post a Bible verse. I understand it has to happen when people are ready but the seed also has to be planted so God can water it. I’ve planted the seeds. If people wanna discuss or call me names then that’s fine, but I’ve said all I needed for God to shine in His glory
My comment was not about you specifically, that great if that’s what you post, however my comment was about why people get upset about “Hearing” about it not reading but hearing from someone else. Because we all have some bias good or bad based on our experiences and perceptions so hearing from someone is what I commented on, not reading and gaining your own perspective.
I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I hear you and I’m getting lots of hate comments so my brain is wired everywhere. But even then, people should just say verses, not explain them unless your a pastor anointed by God Himself. They can spread the gospel without explanation because our duty is to plant seeds. So I understand why people will think bias on it, I’m hoping to change that
Ok. It’s not of God then. You wanna read the word of God? Read the New Testament and see what God Himself directly says. Old Testament is good to know your history, but God clarifies it all through Jesus that says what not to do and you also forget God freed Israel from the Egyptians, if you wanna say in the Bible. Proof that it’s not God saying it then
Yes, agreed if you’ve decided you want to spread the word then it should just be versus but most times, whether we are aware of it or not on some level are giving our perspective of how we understand it when speaking to others. When a pastor is speaking, even then it’s not necessarily an explanation, but that is their understanding of the word of God and I view it as them trying to open up everyone’s mind to different understandings, and allowing people to start thinking creatively themselves.
That’s when you discern the word. Jesus speak plainly about things at times but He also says those who have ears let them hear. That’s when you yourself, not whatever someone else tells you, no whatever this person things. When you have to study the word and know what He is saying
I don’t mean this in an aggressive way, but instead of seeing it as trying to save somebody and going back and forth with them, if you truly just wanna spread the word, share versus and even share your understanding, but share it because you just want to share without any motive behind it good or bad
And that’s a great thing to want, but you can’t force/convince or “save” someone before they are truly ready if that’s what they want. You can help along the way and be there to answer questions and spread the word but because they are ready on some level. Which all circles back to why people get frustrated “hearing” about it, because they aren’t ready and that’s not the path they are on in that moment.
They.. were saved. They are in heaven I hope you know. And ANYONE who repents and is sorry can go to heaven. They just got kicked out of the garden so they didn’t actually wipe out humanity on accident. And God made them man and woman, so that was the start of a perfect world, so repentance yes even for someone gay or someone who’s a pedophile or someone who did a mass murdering
But with some of your replies on other comments you are in a way. Even saying “ but ik people’s hearts are too hard to accept the truth” is almost in a way saying that they’re wrong for not having a relationship with God. Even if that’s the case, and when you make it seem like someone’s wrong for not being on a religious path, which a huge part of society does, it doesn’t allow them to personally connect with God.
as i said before the punishment didn’t fit what they did seeming as they were basically just naive kids. why does someone have to repent for being gay theon do shit but be themselves they can’t help who they like or don’t like. Also u skipped a major part of what I said the conflict of interest when translating the bible or at this point maybe even creating it
Hi, people like Ruth a Moabite and Rahab a resident of Jericho were gentiles and God blessed them. God’s judgement can fall on a society and he decides. He is holy and bound by his word with promises. He views the spark of life in humans as sacred which is why we do not go extinct as a species. From to time his judgement falls as a lesson and why the world is a fallen place.
i’ve noticed questioning everything = hell but asking questions lead to a better understanding of things why are we condemned for that. we basically have to conform or burn like what?? that’s where all the “fair discussions” lead to when discussing this topic this is why no one likes to share their thoughts
The sacred spark of life in humans is sacred and not condemned wholesale “savages”. “Savage” is the colonial propaganda imposed by the palaces of the papacy and the European kings. God’s palace is not an earthly palace. Man is man and God is god while keeping an eye on Jesus and not man. People are sinners but we all are.
Yeah see this is what I’m talking about. I don’t believe in any of that shit. Stop preaching to me about Jesus, I don’t care 🙄. What you people fail to realize is that when you say some shit like “There is only one God, MY God” it’s just insulting as fuck to literally anyone if any culture who has a different faith.
I am simply pointing out colonialism is not the same as God. There is a difference. Missionary work can be an extension of foreign policy of the palaces. That is not God. History is clear how foreign policy works like a shark to balkanize society. Earthly palaces are not the same as God’s kingdom.
How can you say to anyone that your god is the right one and theirs is not. Do you not feel like you are overstepping. Until we find a conclusive answer to what is after death your god is no more real than anyone else’s. If a person is interested in your religion and seeks out the knowledge that’s one thing but if a person is going about their day and someone comes up to them and talks about showing them the light I feel like that person just lacks respect for people
when someone responds to you explaining why they don’t like when christians do this and answering your question and you just hit them with essentially “jesus is the lord, what i believe is the truth,” you are absolutely pushing it. everyone has their own beliefs the same way you do yours. yours are not any more valid.
If you look at the Tower of Babel, that draws a lot of parallels when kings seek to basically to control language and culture into one culture and then at that point keep people away from God. Prior to the flood, God cleansed the earth due to a system issue lack of morality among people and its leaders. The late dark age collapse was due to the rulers seeking to box in the faithful and hide God.
Good to know you’re just not getting it at all. You’re not saving people if they don’t want to be saved. Your beliefs are subjective, not objective. I’m happy you’ve got something to follow but you’re literally proving their point about why people don’t like this preaching shit
Jesus himself used the Greek translation to preach. He also spoke Aramaic. Now apostasy does exist that is not God. Jesus cited various churches as examples of flocks who follow him closely or the lukewarm church. The point is that even in the early days those issues that you are citing were there. Jesus did not endorse a church and said to follow him. Seek Jesus :) no person will ever reach to his level.
In this day and age, just leave people alone if they don’t want to hear about it. I’m catholic myself, but most people do not appreciate hearing about their shortcomings constantly from the moral high ground of religion. Please respect the feelings of other people and keep it to yourself. Additionally, some people have had bad experiences with religion, and they deserve their peace as well. All in all, it just is important to be considerate to everyone, not to act like you know better than them.
Sin is sin. No one is better than the other. We all can’t live up to the 10 commandments and is why we need Jesus because he paid for our sins. Only God can judge and people cannot. Every human has a spark of life that is sacred to God. Thus we should see each other that way while only he can judge.
I did respond to you. Sin is sin and no worse than any other sin. We call can’t live up to the commandments and why we need Jesus. The spark in human life is sacred to God and why we should see each other that way when only God judges and we cannot. You want to bring up a specific and with that specific take issue that I didn’t bring up. Now that you brought it up, It’s up to you to follow God or not that is between you and Him.
There isn’t dancing around the fact and there isn’t hate. Cite the hate in context please. I said sin is sin. God is clear and read the verses. You want specifics when the conversation wasn’t about that. I tell you sin is sin and you know where the Bible stands on it. We all sin and do not follow it fully. We are the same people and you still seek something else.
It’s like citing the encyclopedia. I said sin is sin and you want the conversation outside of that. I point to the source and you continue about specifics. When I say sin is sin in response to you and say the bible is clear, I am not interested in trying to make sin more or less than another and for some reason you want to.
