This is all just to force women into more pain during pregnancy. They’re demonizing contraceptive pills. They’re demonizing pain killers used by pregnant women. They’re actively trying to make sex and reproduction as much of a living hell for women as possible. And they’ll spread any lies they can to get there. Watch, next they’ll attack pads and tampons. And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why except simply for this country’s pure hatred of our women.

the crazy thing is, that it is a known fact that doctors themselves tell pregnant women to take tylenol so it’s obviously not something widely known, it is actively being researched now. i feel that is valid and just because its new doesn’t mean you knock it bc of whose mouth it’s coming out of yk what i mean

upvote -1 downvote
āš’ļø
Anonymous replying to -> #47 6d

Okay so first, Tylenol is a brand and not the actual medication. The medication they stated as a cause of autism is acetaminophen. Now they did not perform a new study to prove its correlation, they just analyzed 46 previous studies about the correlation between pregnant mothers taking acetaminophen and adhd & autism in children. Some of the studies they evaluated were as old as the 1990’s and there wasn’t one single control group for all of them.

upvote 47 downvote
āš’ļø
Anonymous replying to -> #47 6d

So it’s not a known fact at all. The only conclusion the review of all of those studies was that there is a fair correlation between the two outcomes but mainly high doses for prolonged periods, like 4 or more weeks of use during pregnancy. But the reason this is JUST correlation is because the studies can’t prove if the rate increase is because of the acetaminophen or if it’s from prolonged illness or stress of the mother.

upvote 43 downvote
āš’ļø
Anonymous replying to -> #47 6d

Not a single reputable doctor or medical professional has given the affirmative with saying it’s a dangerous medication and can confidently say that it causes autism. Because none of the current studies are done well enough to be able to prove anything past correlation. And fevers are MUCH more dangerous than taking Tylenol or another brand of acetaminophen, so even if it miraculously was the cause of autism mothers should still be taking it.

As someone with family in healthcare, I can promise you several autism does get people severely hurt. Broken fingers if you’re lucky, worse if you’re not. Tylenol is only one brand name and acetaminophen is the ONLY approved medication for pregnant women to take to lower their fevers. The study isn’t the issue, it’s a great study and very well put together, the issue is Trump and his administration miss representing it or straight up lying about the results to the general public and advising pregnant women to try to ā€œtough it outā€ through fevers when fevers are much more dangerous

yes you should always follow the instructions to avoid liver damage, however many people with chronic pain can take less than the daily allotted amount however taking it daily and for prolonged periods of time is in fact very harmful and will cause liver kidney and heart issues. it’s fine to be taken sparingly but again should be limited

Yes and the actual results of the study was that the only significant correlation between autism and acetaminophen use was when it was taken at excessively high doses or used for 4 or more weeks during the pregnancy, both of which are already advised against medically. Which is why doctors are advising mothers to still take acetaminophen when they need it and to not be afraid of the medication, just take it how it’s instructed.

well i appreciate you sharing that. but even so much as having the condition isn’t substitute for rigorous, peer-reviewed research. and (as you pointed out), acetaminophen was invented years after early ASD diagnoses, yet that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a correlational—or even causal—effect. just suggests that it’s not the only cause, which we’re all aware of (genetics will likely always be the leading cause).

i should point out that, i don’t think we necessarily disagree about that much. i only ā€œcondemnedā€ your treating popbase’s claim as dogmatic, despite it taking the government’s warning out of context. our president tends to ramble, but the studies the warning draws from paints a much more nuanced picture than ā€œno evidence found, continue to use as normalā€
