Called you a fat piggy Anyway this is bolstering fascism And adds pressure to this thin-is-in backsliding (and I lowkey love that FOR ME ONLY though cause it speaks to my negative self talk and seeing it like affirmed irl just like scratches an itch in my mentally ill brain 😜😜) but yeah it’s dangerous but also the body positivity movement (some of it) was annoying and it was always a damn lie, saw right through that

No they’re onto something, skinny culture is often a tool of fascism because it promotes conformity and hierarchy. It also diverts your attention away from injustice—if you’re constantly hungry and anxious about your body, you don’t have the bandwidth to fight against totalitarian takeover

America has an insane obesity issue. You shouldn’t starve yourself but you shouldn’t be glutton. Also, wtf does this have to do with a company making a wrapped about what you ordered 😭😭😭

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

it’s not obesity it’s a defense against totalitarianism. So next time you see a fat person thank them for protecting you

upvote -5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

It has an obesity issue and a rising eating disorder issue. Both are true at the same time

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

America has a very unhealthy relationship with food in both ways unfortunately

upvote 13 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

In isolation I can see how this seems like a stretch but a lot of people are noticing a pattern where skinny culture is coming back

upvote 5 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

Definitely

upvote 16 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

skinny isn’t always bad, being obese is always bad. The problem of malnutrition an american isn’t even comparable to the level of obesity

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

But I feel like the thing is the ag we shouldn’t support people from continuing being obese but we should support them making healthier life choices.

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

exactly, but 90% of the time you get called fat phobic even if you mention it in a respectful way

upvote -4 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

I’m more talking about the mental side of skinny culture. Skinny culture is different from healthy eating and exercise, skinny culture is I need to look a certain way or I’m not good enough. Anorexia is deadly and it’s especially rampant in our demographic right now

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #17 1w

Don’t be dishonest, you started off extremely disrespectful

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

Skinny culture encourages us to constantly be preoccupied with our weight and diet. Have you ever heard the term “food noise”? When people become disordered, it takes over their life

upvote 3 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

Definitely. It sucks that some people need to constantly compare themselves to others to find worth in themselves.

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

Yeah, and when you’re constantly worried about that, you don’t have the energy to strengthen your community or speak up when the government or corporations do wrong. It’s all connected

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

I’ve just seen this play out too many times with my friends, and social media is pushing disordered messages very hard right now, so it hits personal for me

upvote 7 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

People also forget that fat people can have restrictive eating disorders too, and it does NOT help them get healthier. It only fucks up their mental health and gives them worse health issues down the line. Shame only makes things worse, if you want to talk about health let’s encourage sustainable healthy habits and mindsets when the context is appropriate to bring it up. And let’s not pretend that fat-hatred isn’t ubiquitous in this country despite our high obesity rates. It just doesn’t help.

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

I mean. Ig it’s connected, but that could apply to a lot of things. Like school or a sport. People can still speak up, and idk how it’s connect to a company telling you all that you ordered during the year

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

You can be to stressed or focused on school/a sport to not notice etc etc.

upvote 2 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

Yes! And lowkey I think our society is designed to be more stressful and demanding than it needs to be so that we don’t have the energy to improve things. I think weight and food anxiety add on top of that but I think they also add a different dimension, which is conformity

upvote 8 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

And if I’m being honest I wouldn’t have made the connection with this post but in general it’s a thing

upvote 6 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #20 1w

Yeah, but it we as humans will need to adapt to it. We haven’t accomplished all we did as a species by not getting pressure from the world.

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #16 1w

It’s not pressure from the world though, it’s artificially created stressors that sap our energy instead of strengthening us. Challenge is good, but what the average person has to deal with now goes beyond that. It’s literally making us sick
