THIS IS ALWAYS SO DUMB TO ME!!! ofc autism is mostly genetic factors. but it’s like these ppl never learned correlation does not imply causation in elementary lmfao. like sure pregnant women may take tylenol for regular pregnancy symptoms. it’s like they can’t comprehend a pregnant woman can catch an infection, which is why they’re takin it. ofc environmental factors still need lots of studying, but it’s at least more accepted that infection can increase risk of autism. it’s just a traceable

We actually know quite a bit, it’s just not been popularized enough in the media for it to be common knowledge (I by no means want this to come off as an attack on you.) For context I am about to graduate with my degree in neuroscience. We know the brain is made up of neurons, and the input center of each neuron are called the dendrites. On these dendrites, we have synapses which are sites where neurons communicate with each other. At birth, we have a ton of these and the “normal” development

upvote 163 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #9 1w

This has been a talking point for a long time even for adhd

upvote 11 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #11 1w

Involves pruning of these synapses. In autism, there is some sort of mutation that results in a lack of synaptic pruning, so to way over simplify what is occurring they are basically receiving too much information in their brain about their surroundings at all times.

(Hello also senior neuroscience) The question of a “true origin” for ASD is a very complicated one because there is no one true picture of the condition. Patterns of hyperconnectivity are a potential etiology for sensory issues, but that only accounts for a very small portion of a mosaic of traits that make up ASD. Other differences in brain structure are scattered across dozens of different structures that are regulated independently of each other, suggesting many different loci of control.

As someone who has a sibling with severe autism I can definitely say that he may be healthy, but he is disadvantaged in almost every way compared to everyone else and it’s cruel to have to live that way. You’re probably still in that bulletproof phase of your life, but everybody has medical shit going on. Just a matter of time till it springs up, back pain, psoriasis, eczema, autoimmune disorders, endometriosis, the list goes on and on. the ada can only so so much, people like you who do nothing but spread misinformation exist and society, even with the ada, is not made for anyone with a disability or a condition outside of whats "normal". autistic people can do better in society if society stops being such a dick to anyone who is different.

If that’s the case then educating people on genetics and allowing them to make an informed decision is enough. Letting the government create regulation on who can reproduce is a recipe for disaster. Where will they draw the line? What will they categorize as pathology?

ok, phrasing the ADA as society being forced to allow us to exist is actually insane. Disabled people have a right to exist, including people that develop disabilities later in life. Your way of talking is very small. We aren’t ruining your life I promise.

Tylenol overdose is the number one cause of liver failure. The only reason you'd get downvoted is for making it seem like simply taking the drug is causing liver failure. If you abuse a drug you're bound to die from said abuse.

It. Does. Damage. If you take it everyday for years it can destroy your liver. You don’t need to OD for it to be harmful. That’s like saying only alcohol poisoning kills. No, alcohol everyday for long periods can damage the body.

An addiction will kill you, yes. Taking Tylenol everyday is... Drum roll please.... Abusing the drug! But all sources say Tylenol OVERDOSE causes liver failure. Not prolonged usuage. Someone abusing the drug caused them liver failure. Not using it 3 days for an ache. Are you catching on?
