THIS IS ALWAYS SO DUMB TO ME!!! ofc autism is mostly genetic factors. but it’s like these ppl never learned correlation does not imply causation in elementary lmfao. like sure pregnant women may take tylenol for regular pregnancy symptoms. it’s like they can’t comprehend a pregnant woman can catch an infection, which is why they’re takin it. ofc environmental factors still need lots of studying, but it’s at least more accepted that infection can increase risk of autism. it’s just a traceable
thing to notice the patterns of women who take Tylenol and higher % of birthing autistic children compared to those who don’t. and instead of actually scientifically looking deeper to see the reason for the correlation they just wipe their hands and stop there. like it’s infuriating seeing this administration be so poor in their research. srry yap over
We actually know quite a bit, it’s just not been popularized enough in the media for it to be common knowledge (I by no means want this to come off as an attack on you.) For context I am about to graduate with my degree in neuroscience. We know the brain is made up of neurons, and the input center of each neuron are called the dendrites. On these dendrites, we have synapses which are sites where neurons communicate with each other. At birth, we have a ton of these and the “normal” development
i am aware that the neurological root of the disorder is widely known. i also study the physical sciences. but have we figured out its true origin? i am genuinely asking since the downvotes are showing that we apparently have. this is exciting news to me that we know what exactly causes it aside from the studies we’ve done on the composition of a brain with ASD. where did it start?
(Hello also senior neuroscience) The question of a “true origin” for ASD is a very complicated one because there is no one true picture of the condition. Patterns of hyperconnectivity are a potential etiology for sensory issues, but that only accounts for a very small portion of a mosaic of traits that make up ASD. Other differences in brain structure are scattered across dozens of different structures that are regulated independently of each other, suggesting many different loci of control.
If we know what specifically causes the mutation then I have yet to learn about it. I’m not sure why you’re getting so many downvotes. I think current treatments focus more on the symptoms than the cause, I highly doubt the president has discovered a way to solve that specific issue
As someone who has a sibling with severe autism I can definitely say that he may be healthy, but he is disadvantaged in almost every way compared to everyone else and it’s cruel to have to live that way. Not all cases are as severe as my brothers, but having a child with a disability is just that, a disability, not normal and usually not compatible with a normal lifestyle.
My mom’s brother has Down syndrome and autism and is fairly low functioning in most aspects and has a lifelong caretaker. but he is the happiest person I have ever met and he absolutely loves his life. Ofc it’s not ideal to be born with a disability but that makes him who he is and he is so happy and full of life. Idk what your beliefs are but if you believe in god, u should know he makes everyone perfect in his eyes and we shouldn’t strive to change his work bc it we were all made with purpose
I’m gonna offer 2¢ for about 3 weeks of my aunts pregnancy it looked like my cousin was gonna be born with major birth defects. My uncle drank so much he gave fish a run for their money, could not handle it at all. Then tests came back entirely normal. ( well mostly normal she’s now a theatre kid ) but the point subsists, you don’t know what that kid is gonna be like till it’s too late.
Yes because its all a farce and a load of horseshit. This tylenol shit has been an idea in debate for the last 10 years, and now we have this braindead admin toying around with findings, all being lead by some dumb shit with holes in his brain and zero scientific literacy or abilities
Well do you believe at face value everything this admin says? I don’t trust them at all. These are the same people who are currently targeting vaccines. Plenty of people in the trump administration are not qualified for their positions so excuse me for not trusting trump. Maybe wait until an actual evidence of this imaginary link?
You’re probably still in that bulletproof phase of your life, but everybody has medical shit going on. Just a matter of time till it springs up, back pain, psoriasis, eczema, autoimmune disorders, endometriosis, the list goes on and on. Are there things we can genetically nudge, sure, but large form eugenics leaves society weaker to diseases and more susceptible to plagues. A little differentiation is a good thing, but too much and it becomes debilitating.
guys i think hes saying if you KNOW you will have a fucked up kid, then dont try and have kids. If they will require a caretaker their whole life, then #42 is suggesting to just not bother with having a kid. And tbh, i agree with that. Why are you having a kid knowing they will have problems? Or especially when mothers drink and smoke during pregnancy.
I think there’s a wild difference between actively endangering your child during pregnancy and having a kid knowing they’ll have sensitive skin. Nobody wins the genetic lottery. Also as I said before, often times you don’t know about the complications till it’s too late to do much about it.
our “issues” aren’t issues bc there’s something actually wrong with us (ofc not saying it doesn’t negatively impact outside of the social norms. i have many physical health issues that is related to my autism & adhd). but our issues in society is how strict yall have made it for everyone not even just for ND ppl. we communicate differently naturally. we have different thought processes and we are unique in our attention to detail many may not notice. autism & adhd evolved in humans for a reason
our brains helped our ancestors survive in the most primitive & harshest conditions. that’s not something to scoff at. our issue isn’t our brain, we are born this way for a reason. the issue is how NT ppl subconsciously dislike us because they sense our major differences. but an actual successful society thrives with diverse minds. it’s sad yall believe in such uniformity
im not high functioning babe. i have very poor functioning skills. i cant even speak properly & i go mute in social situations. i have no ability to mask myself anymore. i can’t use the bathroom properly because of my sensory input issues. but a LOT of that is due to how our society is set up. i cannot function like NT ppl, but am expected to. that doesn’t mean i cant function in my own unique way. but we aren’t ALLOWED TO. that is a huge reason why it disables us. there is no generalization.
According to the CDC, only 26.7% of people with ASD have “profound autism”, which is probably what you’re referring to when you mention those with intellectual disabilities. So very high support needs autism would be the exception, not the other way around. It’s a very common misconception!
i just wanted to say it was rlly beautiful reading ur reply abt your mom’s brother. im so so tired of having to hear ppl speak for low functioning ND individuals as if they truly know what they’re thinking. does having a disability and a lifelong caretaker come with severe challenges??? absolutely. but at the same time it’s always ppl who aren’t that low functioning ND ppl saying it’s just this awful situation to be in and ppl who aren’t as low functioning don’t know.
like sure as someone with poorer functionality but able to be independent TECHNICALLY (not rlly saying should be tbh lol), but does have moderate needs, i can say that i love my brain. i don’t love the way society and my brain clash, making my disability even worse, but do these ppl ever stop to think this seriously awful life their disabled loved one has isn’t suffering as much internally as they assume FOR them??? being low functioning doesn’t mean they don’t have their own, unique ways of
the ada can only so so much, people like you who do nothing but spread misinformation exist and society, even with the ada, is not made for anyone with a disability or a condition outside of whats "normal". autistic people can do better in society if society stops being such a dick to anyone who is different.
of processing information internally. ppl act like having severe intellectual disability is like the same as being brain dead. how do u know ur family member doesn’t actually love how they are??? their unique experiences and abilities and perspectives even if there’s also that aspect of intense struggle?? like i’m so tired of these family members and caretakers deflecting THEIR!!!! subconscious dislike for their loved ones severe autism by acting like some advocate for them
i was able to exist in society. i still do. i have moderate needs but lots of issues that follow. i do have different needs, and all of them were ignored. this led to skill regression along with ofc stuff i was dealing with all my life already. but how do you suppose conditions like mine are treated? hm? maybe stop for a sec & think abt how ND ppl will always be ND. forcing us to live & act like NT ppl disables us further ^ like i explained. but instead of doing something about it to where
so once society does disable us more by making us do things they know we cannot do the same as others (not saying we cannot do it. YOU mistake not doing something LIKE YOU means we can’t do ANYTHING. nah. the most remarkable ppl are ND, and when we live our lives that is HEALTHY for us. that won’t DISABLE US MORE. so so many of us are remarkable). and how exactly are u forced to allow me to exist in my unique way???? like??? i’m sorry babe but you genuinely don’t understand the daily life of
a ND person. the way we bend and break ourselves bc yall are too uncomfy to deal with someone’s differences so we have to act like u. ur forced to fucking allow us to do what ???? how abt u intensely mask every single little thing about yourself to exist in public with you. imagine doing that for so long you literally fucking broke ur ability to mask anymore. why do u think suicide is so high for us? not bc we hate ourselves. but bc u hate us. WE ARE THE ONES WHO MASK TILL IT KILLS US
but sure YOU are forced to actually deal with it. our “accommodations” btw are mostly shit. all it does is give most of us a few little itty bitty ways to help so we can go back to performing as a NT person as best as possible. i don’t need treatment for not being NT enough. sure i need treatment obviously for things like my physical issues. i’m not gonna make myself feel like the complex, beautiful, devastating brain i’ve been born with needs to be stifled to satisfy you.
what’s the best reason to hate me? burnout that leads to not having the ability to mask, like at all, is common. it is not in our control. and yk what?? we ALREADY know u hate us. you would rather we make ourselves miserable every single day. scripting out all of our everyday interactions and hiding every aspect of our being so yall don’t isolate us from society even more. you guys are the ones who force us to mask, put strict expectations and rules (made up & truly just a construct) that
highkey makes everyone, ND & NT, ppl miserable in many ways. but for ND ppl it’s that added aspect of having a differently wired brain. im sorry NT ppl are so hateful, so mean, so conniving that you see us struggle bc of the world NT ppl themselves created, one not made for us. you see us die or disable ourselves further to please and survive NT society. and it makes u hate us more hahah. that’s another reason why i’m so happy to be ND. i could never imagine wanting to have a brain like urs
An addiction will kill you, yes. Taking Tylenol everyday is... Drum roll please.... Abusing the drug! But all sources say Tylenol OVERDOSE causes liver failure. Not prolonged usuage. Someone abusing the drug caused them liver failure. Not using it 3 days for an ache. Are you catching on?
Idk why you're telling me your life story when all I did was quote you and use actual sources. Why did that upset you? I never said only. I simply said Tylenol overdose is the leading cause of liver failure in the US (backed by the Mayo clinic). Reading shouldn't be that hard for you
Thank you for the sweet reply! That’s very true and just because he requires more care and has to go through life differently than most, it doesn’t matter to him and he works at the food bank helping people every day and LOVES it. He’s taught my family and me so many lessons and how to see life in a different perspective.
