We are never ever getting back together, dear John, look what you made me do, the last time, all too well, back to December, youâre losing me, youâre not sorry, need I go on? All of them come in two flavors: upbeat and angry and content with moving on from a bad partner, or sad and melancholy and reflective about moving on from a bad partner. Thereâs a point where writing the same themes and content over and over and over becomes stale and repetitive and she hit that point years ago.
Please listen to all too well and look what you made me do. Very different beats, rhythms, lyrics, instrumentals, vibes, etc I get the point youâre trying to make, yes all her songs are based on the same idea of heart break, but they are still very different songs. Sheâs been pop and country and kept her content the same, thatâs not necessarily easy, she just found what she likes to write about and what people like to listen to
She is writing the same two kinds of songs over and over again with varying degrees of emotional intensity and mood and has been for over a decade. Itâs like she has a breakup song wheel she spins in her house that lands on either âsad and angryâ or âready to move on nowâ and then she writes it around what that wheel lands on. Itâs the same damn thematic core recycled as nauseum.
Because art, particularly in the singer song writer space, is not about writing whatâs popular to an audience or what an audience likes to listen to repeatedly, itâs about exploring oneself in a very reflective and personal manner through song. If youâre just writing the same thing over and over because itâs what millions of others like, thatâs writing for marketability and not from a place of genuine personality. And, like I said, it becomes very repetitive and stale.
At their best, Taylorâs breakup songs demonstrate that she isnât really capable of exploring much about herself without falling back into the same style as a crutch. At their worst, they show the rock bottom of what a singer songwriter can do: write for marketabilityâs sake over artistryâs sake
You pulling all of this out of your ass is actually beyond belief right now. We can have a civil conversation but saying âshe isnât capable of exploring much about herselfâ is insanity. Her growth through her albums and song writing has grown exponentially. You donât need to see that but invalidating it is just you choosing to remain ignorant.
Well, if youâve actually been reading what Iâve said, âall too wellâ would fall into the same camp as the âsad reflectiveâ mood like back to December and last kiss whereas look what you mad me too falls into the âangry and upbeatâ camp like we are never getting back together. Some are pre triumphant, some are sadder, but all of them cover the same damn thing on repeat, over and over. And it gets really, really boring imo. Like it if you want, but Iâm gonna call a spade a spade
Okay but comparing two songs with the same melody/overall theme of âsadness and breakupsâ does not mean they are the same. Look What You Made Me Do is a âhey gotchaâ song to Kim K and Kanye. While All Too Well is a âhey Jake you put me through hell you manipulative narcissistâ Nowhere are they on the same wavelength.
You have no idea what Iâve been through in my life, frankly, and youâre entering this nasty space I see a lot of Taylor fans enter when confronted with criticism where they make the whole thing personal. I donât care if you like Taylor, go ahead, but art is subjective and I personally find all of her library to be at best kind of uninspired and copycat and at worst really, really embarrassingly poorly written, particularly with how badly she fucks up the meter itself when writing
Clearly you havenât been through enough if youâre trying to solidify your argument with unfactual evidence. Honestly, Iâm okay with the nastiness because you people continually try to diminish her songwriting ability. Itâs always the same argument and has been for almost 20 years. âAll the songs sound the sameâ when they donât. Itâs truly just an ignorant statement with no solid ground to stand on. I guarantee there is at least one song you would fully resonant with but live the way you want.
So now you get a pass to make claims about the kinds of struggle Iâve had in life because I donât like an artists music? And thatâs fine because Iâm critiquing music I donât like? Do you people actually listen to yourselves say that and think thatâs mature, acceptable behavior? And you guys wonder why Taylor fans have this reputation of being unbearably defensive and toxic, grow up please lol
Iâve been through a lot of what Taylor writes about, itâs not uncharted territory for me, but an artist covering feelings and ideas Iâve experienced in my life is not enough to make it good. It has to actually be compelling and well written, and in my opinion her music is not
I am purposefully being immature right now, itâs only towards people that hate her too. The reputation at this point is set and stone and yet, nothing changes. Taylor will still make music. We will still buy it. Records will be broken and charts will be charting. In the end, the only people losing are the people that donât like her. Be annoyed. Weâre over it. đ¤ˇđźââď¸
So youâve just admittedly decided to throw all mature discussion over an artist out the window because youâre offended someone has a different opinion than you? Well, at least youâre self aware, and thatâs more than I can say for a lot her fans Iâve interacted with. Like her music all you want, I do not care if others like it, but you frankly deserve all the reputation you have as a fandom if youâre admittedly and proudly going to behave like children lol
âThis persons music is compelling and well writtenâ is not and cannot be an objective statement lol, art is subjective. If you want me to recommend you singer songwriters that I think write better and more compelling music than her, I would recommend Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Sun Kil Moon, Mt. Eerie, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Elliott Smith, for starters.
I didnât âshut downâ lol, and I never said it all sounds the same, just that it covers the same themes and ideas over and over again. Based on how immature and touchy youâre being over this, Iâm going to guess you approach music and dissecting themes in it with the same level of immaturity. Iâm not sure why Iâve given you this much attention when you donât care to actually discuss art seriously, to be honest
Well for one they explore a wider and broader range of themes than Taylor, in my opinion. You can hear and feel the emotional rawness in their writing through songs that explore deeply personal feelings of pain and joy that donât just approach the same topic from a different angle over and over and over again. Thereâs a poeticism to their work that is not present in Taylorâs music and I appreciate it for that.
The experience of listening to Nick Drakeâs Pink Moon, an album written on the brink of suicide that hauntingly explores his worldview in that state of mind, or Mt Eeries A Crow Looked at Me, written just months after the death of his wife and exploring how it has impacted every area of his life, are examples of far more compelling singer songwriter albums that express the raw emotion of those themes in ways I have never experienced listening to a Taylor swift album.
And where in that screenshot do I say it SOUNDS the same? The way a song sounds and its thematic content are two different things. Youâre putting words in my mouth at this point because youâre this offended over someone fairly nit appreciating her music and itâs embarassing, frankly
I donât know why I have to explain this to you twice but âshe writes the same two kinds of songs over and over againâ doesnât necessarily mean how it SOUNDS. Again, the sound of a song and its thematic content are two different things. Are you actually reading over what Iâm saying or just skimming it and being purposefully obtuse?
Frankly, based on how youâve been acting, Iâm not sure I want to continue this conversation further. Youâre being immature, rude, and spiteful all because someone voiced criticism over music you liked, and itâs both pathetic and intolerably annoying. I have no interest in sharing art with people who are only exploring it because they want to use it as a point of argument. I voiced my opinion, you didnât like it, tough I guess. If all youâre going to do is continually misinterpret points andâŚ
You were actively asking me to continue the conversation with your âserious requestsâ and such about other artists and I obliged you thinking you might actually start to take conversation about art seriously. My mistake for thinking Taylor fans could handle a serious conversation about music that doesnât just meat ride their fav lol
taylor swift isnât important enough to me to get sources to prove myself to a stranger on the internet. the general consensus online says that she emits over x1000 more than the regular person. 1. just because someone else is on HER jet doesnât mean that she isnât contributing to the problem. 2. just because other people do it doesnât mean itâs okay for the environment
Also, Iâm calling bull on the ânobodyâs cryingâ because youâve got like 5 separate arguments going on in these posts, all over how butthurt you are that someone has a different opinion about an artist you like. You wanna talk spending hours of your life arguing about an artist, look in the mirror lol, just kinda pathetic honestky
Correct! Because itâs fun and I have downtime. Iâm consciously aware of what Iâm commenting on/replying to, believe me. Thanks for taking the time to scroll through and check though. *sigh* itâs always the same parasocial argument. I donât care that TS never sees the post. I donât care that she doesnât know me. Blah blah blah. Next!
Also itâs less about caring and more so itâs just fun pushing buttons of people who donât like her. Itâs not normal behavior to be this obsessed with someone who brings you no joy. Nobody does that except, wait for it, people who are obsessed. Because letâs be honest. Taylor lives in yalls minds rent free with how many hate comments she gets on every yikyak post. Are you people not tired yet?
literally such a useless flight. she can drive. she may be a celebrity, but itâs not like sheâs walking on the street. thereâs nothing stopping her from driving or getting a ride places, especially for trips that short. it is just lazy and ignorant imo. people always say to be mindful of your electricity use by turning off a light in a room you arenât in, and sheâs using and lending her jet for short rides
this post was at the very top of my yikyak.. đ i need to be reminded of her to ever have her on my mind. and yes, youâre right. itâs not normal behavior to be obsessed with someone, including someone who brings one joy. but all i see in these comments is your obsession shining through them
I mean yeah sure Iâm obsessed with her, Iâm okay with that lol doesnât impact my day to day or ability to maintain normal human relationships or have a job whatsoever. Plus it brings me joy. So? No losses here. You guys on the other hand, youâve responded whatâŚ.5+ times now? And for what? You could be out with friends, playing a video game, on a date but nope. Here. Talking about Taylor. :/
yes, itâs 8pm for me now. youâve been replying since over 5 hours ago nonstop. when people have school or work đ discourse is absolutely fine on the internet but itâs concerning just how long youâve been going at it. like arguing all day has got to take a toll on mental health
And Iâve been at work from 5:30am to 6pm my time. Itâs 7pm now. Did you read my previous replies by saying all my stuff at work was finished including paperwork and patient care? I even had time to do all my diagnostic work and STILL had the ability to reply. Thatâs productivity if you ask me. I appreciate your concern though, very sweet of you to care about my health and wellbeing
She is world news. Maybe I should have corrected myself to âpolitical mattersâ or something not in relation to pop culture. But you know what I mean I hope. Israel/Palestine is not on the same spectrum of importance as Taylor Swift and anyone with a brain understands that. However. There is allowed to be good news posts without Israel/Palestine being brought up every single time. That is allowed to happen and does not diminish the severity of the current genocide.
the genocide of palestine will keep being brought up in posts like this until their people stop dying. i get wanting to stay positive and see positive posts. but it is an abuse of privilege to ignore what is going on. palestinians donât get to just ignore it and smile over a taylor swift post. so it will never make sense to me why talk of the war isnât welcome in posts like this. it is to be expected
This is performative. Commenting on posts like this does 1) nothing for Palestinians. And 2) these comments are not on every post PopBase posts. Iâve scrolled through several now that have not a single comment about genocide. So I stand by everything I just said. You can keep commenting on stuff like this but it does absolutely nothing for the people suffering.
well since taylor is âworld newsâ then maybe palestine comments deserve to be here đ also reposting a post on ur priv account does nothing for palestinians either. tell ur goat to spend her money on a starving family instead of a few minute flight to her manâs house for a booty call
I have a set amount of patients per day. Once theyâre cared for, thatâs it. The history form is completed, physical exam form completed, assessment form completed, diagnostics assessed completed, and discharge instructions completed along with medications filled. And believe it or not, I was able to do all that and still have time to reply to you people. So yes I was able to get it all done in time.
obviously people care about the ukraine war. the difference between the two wars is that the people in palestine are being starved to death and the WHOLE country suffers, while ukraine still has support. people have turned the war in palestine into a religious thing and have been siding with israel, so palestine is getting fucking flattened rn with no hope
Yeah, but I meant that what Iâve seen which obviously isnât the whole internet, it seems some people donât seem to be aware of the war or care that the war in Ukraine still happening, like itâs been put on the back burner, then there was a massive shift to palestine since hamas is starving its own people
#16 and #34 crashing out in these comments has made my week. Lol Ive been scrolling for 10 minutes and still am seeing their comments. I think Taylor is a great lyricist and on ok artist, some catchy songs, but brother #16 said she was at work and was commenting in their free time đ. Like you could be doing anything else, watching Netflix, listening to music, but no youre defending someone who doesnt even know you exist đ
Okay well they werenât ads, they were brands that posted on their personal pages. I guarantee youâve seen many but didnât put 2 and 2 together. Because I also have Adblock on everything but if itâs not advertised as an ad, then it doesnât get blocked. See how that works?
her saying that she reads books is not proof that she reads books. do you actually think that every word that comes out of her mouth is godâs honest truth? seriously, how naive can you be? Iâve seen her in interviews: she has an average intelligence, AT BEST. and that feels generous.
I mean that I donât think the way she speaks or behaves, or the specific things she says, reflects any sort of coherent or complex worldview. I donât think she has any particular social or psychological insight. I donât think her songs reflect a broad and vivid imagination. again, youâre free to disagree.
Okay but not invoking imagination is where you lost me. She wrote two whole albums about fairytales and folklore. I think it really is who you are as a person and if your imagination isnât highly in tune in daydreaming vividly then I donât expect you to understand the lyrics or how literate she truly is
she references things that the average high school student recognizes and is aware of. this is not impressive, and itâs intentional in order to sell her music. a grown woman in her 30s writing about fairy tales and what you are referring to as âfolkloreâ (itâs not folklore, just fyi), is not impressive or evidence of someone with any literary interest whatsoever.
How do you enjoy Tori Amos and then donât enjoy Taylor Swift who literally made albums almost in the same notion Tori did? Like genuinely. How do you listen to the imaginative lyrical imagery that Tori produces, and not have the same imagination transition over to Taylorâs songs? Serious question because she provides an insane amount of vivid imagery through her lyrics
So no, she cannot fly commercial nor can she drive. All that would do is cause an insane amount of people because you know people would buy tickets for that airport just to be there, and they would drive on the same highway just to catch a sight of her. There is no reasonable way for her to travel for her and everyoneâs safety, that is not by private jet.
No because I would never do that. I donât care if celebrities are in town or getting a glimpse. But every fandom ever has crazy and insane people, thatâs just a given. People show up every place she is. People have taken pictures of her in HER HOME for goodness sake đ thinking she could travel any other way besides jet is just crazy
Okay I tired of responding to someone with so little working brain power. I provided evidence (backed by references) for TS not being the top CO2 emissions. You dodged it. You came back with AI images. And dodged it by talking about photoshop. Then came after me about the impact of AI when Iâm not the one supporting AI by sharing AI images. Weâre done here.
How could you possibly know TSâs body count? You donâtâŚ. Youâre assuming and spreading misinformation. It sounds like youâre jealous that sheâs a billionaire who constantly donates her money to charities and gives massive bonuses to the people who work for her. Sounds like a good role model to meâŚ. Please find happiness and joy instead of spreading hate sir
