Traditionally, in East Asian and other cultures, you’re considered 1 years old when you’re born, bur many have adopted the international age-counting system (I.e, what we do now)

Because your birthday is the day you’re born, not the time you’ve been alive. Biologically speaking, if you want to say 9 months, that’s counting since conception. However, a pregnancy isn’t viable until ~24 weeks, so technically, you’d be around 4 months and celebrate 5 months later because that’s when you could (though rare) survive outside your mom
